Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)

Asset-Based Community Development Workshops in Sandwell

Asset based community development (ABCD) is a local, 'grass roots' approach to strengthening communities.

Through a process of recognising, identifying and harnessing existing 'assets' (i.e. things like skills, knowledge, capacity, resources, experience or enthusiasm) that individuals and communities have, ABCD aims to help strengthen and improve things locally.

Instead of looking at what a community needs or lacks, the approach focuses on utilising the 'assets' that are already there.

In Autumn 2021, Sandwell Churches Link ran a series of 6 Community Development Workshops- using the principles of ABCD. The workshops were run in partnership with Sandwell Council and led by Tim Evans. The workshops received very positive reviews and Sandwell Churches Link plans to run further similar events sometime next year.

If you would be interested in attending a workshop in the future, or would like to host an event at your community centre, church or local organisation, do get in touch.
