Heathy Sandwell and University Hospital Birmingham are pleased to be able to offer community liver health checks to local residents on Thursday 9 April between 9.00am – 2.30pm at Cradley Heath Salvation Army, Meredith Street, Cradley Heath, B64 5EP.

This initiative is a key component of a broader programme aimed at facilitating earlier diagnosis of liver cancer and improving patient experiences. The NHS Cancer Programme has partnered with the National Hepatitis C Elimination Programme to provide mobile fibroscans and other diagnostic services to individuals at high risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer.

People are eligible to have a liver health check if they are aged 18-75, plus one of the following:

– Alcohol consumption greater than 14 units per week

– History of Hepatitis B or C

– Aged over 50 with MASLD (fatty liver disease)

– Aged over 50 with Type II diabetes and a BMI over 30 (or over 27, depending on ethnicity)

People don’t need to book an appointment, feel free to simply turn-up, the scan only takes 7 minutes, and it is non-invasive. Even if people are unsure about eligibility, they are encouraged to come along anyway to receive additional support and get further information on how to improve their health.
